Wegovy

Wegovy is a prescription medicine designed to help adults lose weight and keep it off. It’s approved for people who are:

• Obese (BMI of 30 or more)
• Overweight (BMI of 27 or more) with health problems like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high

Wegovy works in three main ways:

1. 1. Reduces Appetite: It affects parts of your brain that control hunger, helping you feel full faster and eat less.
   2. Slows Digestion: It makes food stay in your stomach longer, so you feel satisfied for a longer time after
   3. Controls Blood Sugar: Wegovy helps your body manage blood sugar levels better, which can be especially helpful if you’re at risk for diabetes.

Wegovy comes as a once-a-week injection you give yourself using a small, easy-to­ use pen. To avoid side effects, the dose is increased gradually over a few months:

• Start Smal:  Begin with 25 mg once a week for the first 4 weeks.
• Gradual Increase:
  • Weeks 5-8: 5 mg
  • Weeks 9-12: 1 mg
  • Weeks 13-16: 1.7 mg
  • Full Dose: From Week 17 onwards, the regular dose is 4 mg once a week.

Some people may experience:

• Upset stomach, nausea, or vomiting
• Diarrhea or constipation
• Feeling tired or dizzy

These side effects often go away as your body adjusts to the medication. Eating smaller meals and avoiding rich or greasy foods can help.

While Wegovy is mainly for weight loss, it has other health benefits:
